Lou Diamond Phillips + Edy Ganem attends the 32nd Annual Imagen Awards
Friday night’s 32nd Annual Imagen Awards was held at The Beverly Wilshire - Four Seasons Hotel and featured a top-tiered “who’s who” of Latinos in television and film - a demographic often overlooked by mainstream award shows. Amongst those attending the star-studded affair was Producer, Thada Catalon, veteran Hollywood actor, Lou Diamond Phillips, and actress, Edy Ganem, who both received Imagen Award nominations for their roles in the award winning, independently produced legal thriller, Created Equal. Phillips was nominated for "Best Actor - Feature Film" for his role as "Monsignor Renzulli,” and Ganem was nominated for “Best Actress - Feature Film" for her portrayal as "Alexandra 'Allie' Batista.”
Ganem told NBC Latino that although things for Latino actors are changing very slowly, she feels lucky to be in the business today, and excited that there is a movement afoot to push the issue of more Latino representation in Hollywood. See more here: NBC Latino

Created Equal follows the story of Thomas “Tommy” Reilly (Tveit), a cocky, up-and-coming attorney, who begrudgingly takes on a case for Sister Alejandra “Allie” Batista (Ganem), a devout Catholic who feels called to serve God as a priest. Against his supervisor's wishes, Tommy files suit against the Archdiocese of New Orleans for gender discrimination.
Director, Bill Duke’s (Sister Act II) newest film is Created Equal, which stars a multi-cultural cast: Aaron Tveit (Les Misérables, Graceland, Grease Live), Edy Ganem (Lifetime’s Devious Maids), veteran actors Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Longmire) GregAlan Williams (OWN’s Greenleaf, Baywatch) and Yohance Myles (Shots Fired).
